NEW CITY CENTRE BEGINS

The relocation of the Horton Park Golf Club to its brand new course at Bli Bli will enable the start of construction on stage one of the exciting new Maroochydore City Centre which will become the new heart of the Sunshine Coast.

The project will be known as SunCentral Maroochydore and CEO John Knaggs says the 53 hectare site will create up to 10,000 jobs over the 20 year life of the project.

“What we are creating is a new city centre for the Sunshine Coast from the ground up,” he says.

“The new city centre will provide important community infrastructure and facilities as well as attract significant new investment to the region. Existing businesses will also see that there will be many new opportunities for expansion.

“It will become the premier centre for the region and home to major civic and entertainment facilities, commercial and retail development as well as more than 2,000 residential apartments.

“We’ve also ensured there is a significant amount of open space with up to 40 per cent of the project site allocated for public parks and waterways.”

Knaggs paid tribute to the management team, staff and members of the Horton Park Golf Club for their cooperation during the transition process from the existing site to the new course.

“We’ve developed a great relationship with the club,” he says.

“There have been some challenging times along the way but we’ve worked through all the issues collaboratively and the end result is a great win for both the club and the broader Sunshine Coast community.”

Stage one of SunCentral will start in June and include the demolition of the clubhouse and nearby buildings followed by major earthworks and then infrastructure works.

It is expected these early works will be complete around mid-2016 with construction of new buildings by investors able to commence shortly thereafter.
