LEND LEASE APPLAUDS SUNSHINE PLAZA DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION DECISION

Lend Lease has applauded the Sunshine Coast Council’s decision to approve the $350 million expansion of Sunshine Plaza. Gary Horwitz, Head of Retail – Development and Asset Management for Lend Lease welcomed the decision. “The approval of the Development Application brings us a step closer to delivering an enhanced retail, dining and entertainment experience at Sunshine Plaza. “Council’s decision presents us with an opportunity to position Sunshine Plaza as a vibrant community hub and we are looking forward to working with Council, our retailers and residents as the remaining milestones to permit the commencement of this exciting redevelopment are satisfied,” Gary said. The redevelopment proposes 120 additional specialty stores, a further 1,500 car spaces, an expansion of the current Myer and the region’s first David Jones Department Store. Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson said the expansion of Sunshine Plaza is a vote of confidence in the region’s retail future and he welcomed the investment. “The Sunshine Coast is undergoing a remarkable economic transformation with work underway on the region’s biggest infrastructure project – the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, planning well progressed for the new Maroochydore CBD and the airport expansion at the EIS stage. “The Sunshine Plaza expansion in the Maroochydore city centre is another important part of that picture, and along the way it will create confidence, jobs and a high quality retail experience for residents and visitors.” The centre has the largest and most diverse variety of specialty stores on the Sunshine Coast with over 220 specialty stores together with Birch Carroll and Coyle 12 Cinemas, Best & Less, Coles, Kmart, Myer and Target.
